Statement

In her work, Karen Haas portrays the texture and energy of urban life. Her subjects are people engaging in activities in public spaces in northern California. Her special interest is in describing vignettes that touch and disturb at the same time. She has shown her work in the communities of Berkeley, Palo Alto, Mountain View, Pittsburg, San Jose and San Rafael.

Apart from painting and exhibiting, her professional activity for the past fifteen years has been teaching watercolor to adults at Sunnyvale Community Center. Along with providing leisure-time activity, her goal has been to create a more knowledgeable audience for art.
